Alliance Française de Dhaka is delighted to host “Rickshaw Artistry: A World Heritage,” the 10th solo exhibition by celebrated artist Nobo Kumar Bhadra. This exhibition pays homage to the vibrant and intricate art form that adorns rickshaws, a cultural emblem of Bangladesh cherished worldwide.

BIOGRAPHY
Nobo Kumar Bhadra
Nobo Kumar Bhadra born in 1964, is a prominent rickshaw painter from Bangladesh, recognized for his contributions to this traditional folk art form. He hails from Shakhari Bazar in Dhaka, where he began his artistic journey in the late 1970s by painting cinema banners alongside his father. Due to financial constraints, he left school in the sixth grade and was introduced to rickshaw painting by a neighbor, Sitesh Sur, who became his mentor. Nobo Kumar has been active in the art scene since 1987, leveraging the artistic environment of his neighborhood to sell his work. His art is characterized by vibrant colors and whimsical characters, aimed at bringing joy to viewers.
Nobo Kumar’s rickshaw art is heavily influenced by themes from Bangladesh’s cinema and often features animal motifs. His artistic philosophy centers on creating pleasure through his work, employing bright colors and imaginative scenes. He has participated in various exhibitions, including “Summer in Colour” at the Alliance Française de Dhaka, showcasing his unique style and the cultural significance of rickshaw painting in Bangladesh.
