About Bashir Ahmed:
Bashir Ahmed, the renowned Bangladeshi playback singer, lyricist, and musician (b. 1939 in Kolkata), is best known for his memorable hits in films such as 'Talash', 'Chanda', 'Darshan', ‘Moynamoti’, ‘Moner Moto Bou’, 'Apon Por', 'Doshshu Bonhur’ and many more.
In the late 1950s, he first came to the then East Pakistan when renowned film producer and owner of Gulistan Cinema Hall, Mr. Dosani, organized a special music program in Dhaka. Talat Mahmood and Bashir Ahmed were invited to perform. Captivated by the love and admiration he received from the people of this land, Bashir Ahmed decided to move to this land with his wife, Meena Bashir, another legendary figure in Bangladeshi music history.
In the early 1980s, he and his family settled in his Mohammadpur residence, where he lived until the end of his life. In recognition of his significant contributions to the Bangladeshi music industry, he was awarded the National Film Award in 2003 and the prestigious Ekushey Padak in 2005.
Following in their parents' footsteps, Bashir Ahmed's children, Humaira Bashir and Raja Bashir, also pursued careers in music. To honor their father's legacy, they established the 'Bashir Ahmed Award' in 2019. They frequently perform solos and duets of their father's songs, ensuring his enduring presence through music.
